Effective Bearing Protection for Vertical and Horizontal Pumps
This type of shaft seal is primarily used on vertical pumps to protect the anti‑friction bearings from water splashes and external contamination. Depending on the application, different lip rings made from various materials can be used.
Design and operating principle
Friction‑optimized lip seals as well as pre‑tensioned PTFE lips are commonly applied. These seals run on hardened shaft sleeves, ensuring reliable sealing performance and extended service life, even under demanding operating conditions.
For horizontal pumps, quench chambers are typically sealed using single‑acting mechanical seals combined with a lip ring. This sealing concept provides additional protection against ingress of external media.
Use as stationary sealing
The same sealing principle is also applied as a stationary seal for hydrodynamic shaft seals, ensuring reliable sealing when the pump is at standstill and complementing the hydrodynamic sealing function during operation.
